The OUR WORLD IS NOT FOR SALE campaign was formed around building the protests at the September 2007 US-NZ Partnership Forum, the global justice campaign aims to build public support and organisation against the signing of any form of free trade agreement between the United States and New Zealand.
The government desperately wants to sign a Free Trade Agreement with the United States. What the government isn’t considering is the long term effects of a free trade agreement to the New Zealand environment; to our ability to control our own public services like education; and the effects of continued deregulation and corporatisation of the global economy.
We further believe that it is morally and ethically repugnant for the Labour government to seek to negotiate a trade agreement with a government that continues to wage a war that the Prime Minister herself has labelled as, ‘wrong’. Trade agreements should not be negotiated with governments violating international laws and treaties.
